External Stables – Modular Frames

Our external range is constructed from modular steel panels that bolt down to a new or existing concrete pad.

The frames are constructed using our 40mm and 50mm steel box sections and can be made to follow drainage slopes on the floor if necessary.

On top of the side partitions, we attach a series of heavy-duty 100mm x 50mm steel rafters to carry the roof.

Customers can choose a 1200mm to 1500mm overhang to give shelter from any prevailing weather. 5 rows of tanalized wooden purlins (150mm x 75mm) are attached horizontally to the steel rafters to which the fibre cement roofing is secured. Inside the steel frames we weld channel sections to hold the tongue and groove boarding options. These are made to be weather-proof and are drilled with drainage holes on the external faces of each stable panel.

The end partitions are always fully boarded to the roofline and are overlapped with a galvanized barge board as shown. The centre partitions can either be fully boarded to the roofline, fully boarded to 7′ to allow airflow between the stables, or grilled on the top half to allow maximum airflow and light between the stables.

Our external stable frame height is 2850mm at the front and 2520mm at the rear. This can vary slightly depending upon the size of the stables to allow the correct pitch of the roof to be achieved.

Please see our design options below and click here for itemised pricing and for some stable block example prices.

As we make everything in-house, we can also design a custom stable design layout to suit your specific requirements.

All our frames are skillfully welded for maximum safety and supplied galvanised as standard to ISO 1461.

External Stable Boarding

For our external stable boarding, we recommend our external recycled plastic composite boarding. They are UV- protected and maintenance free. Some clients use our UV-protected Bamboo for their fronts, when protected by an overhang. This Bamboo will require regular maintenance.

> Our external doorways are 2440mm high and 1220mm wide.

> A full top grill of 290mm runs across the top of each stable front to give ventilation.

> The bottom stable doors sit 1305mm from the ground and are fitted with a variety of shoot bolt options and with kickover latches.

> Customers can choose from a variety of top door options including fully boarded, anti-weave, or fully grilled designs.

> The doors supplied with weld-on hinges or adjustable hinges when necessary.

> Anti-Chew plates can be installed on request.

> Sliding Doors are also available on our external range.

External stable windows are also available on the front or back panels of the stables. You may also like to review our page about our external barn doors.

Roofing and Guttering

Our external stables range comes with a durable fibre cement roof as standard. This is Profile 6 sheeting from Marley Eternit.

The fibre cement comes in a grey colour as standard, but different colours are available for a premium.

Most customers opt for a roof light sheet to be installed into each external stable to give natural light.

The end of each run finished with a galvanised barge board.

We use a black PVC 150mm guttering with 110mm downpipes with shoes.

The guttering secured using fascia brackets and the downpipes are located at regular intervals to ensure efficient rainwater discharge
