Bamboo Boarding Option

Our Strand Woven Bamboo has been a revelation in stabling. Not only is it stronger than any other wood product, it also requires minimal ongoing maintenance.

.

Bamboo boards are:

.

·         Harder and more fire resistant

.

·         less sensitive to humidity as well as to drying

.

·         more colourfast

.

·         retain their shape better than all tested tropical hardwood boards

.

·         far superior to the European boards

The process of cutting bamboo into planks involves:

.

·         Harvesting the full grown and hardened bamboo stems

.

·         Peeling the outer layer of the bamboo

.

·         Cutting the stalks into thin strips and planed flat

.

·         Strips are boiled, dried and planed again

.

·         Strips are glued and pressed under high pressure. The strength of the board is determined by how the board is pressed: plain pressed (horizontal strips), side pressed (vertical strips) or strandwoven (high pressure mix). With the latter, the strips are woven horizontally and vertically, intertwined with each other, resulting in the sturdiest of all bamboo boards. All of the bamboo boards we're offering are strandwoven.

.

·         Combination of heat and pressure determine the colour: a normal temperature leads to the natural lighter colour; a higher temperature leads to the oxidation of the sugar, present in the sap of the bamboo, causing a darker, caramelised colour.

.

·         Planks are cut to size and sanded.

.

·         Oiled 5 times providing the ultimate protection layer

Bamboo planks are a finished product. No further treatment is necessary. As far as maintenance is concerned: just wash them when they're dirty or use a high pressure cleaner.
